Where Cambridge history, community, and good food come together
Our Story: Five Decades in The Den
When Grendel’s Den first opened its doors at 89 Winthrop St in Cambridge, MA, our goal was simple—to serve good food and drinks at prices everyone could enjoy. We wanted a place where people could relax, laugh, and connect without the fuss of fine dining. Over fifty years later, that same mission still drives everything we do.
A Place for Everyone
Grendel’s Den Restaurant & Bar has always been about community. Whether you’re here for a hearty meal, a local beer, or one of our original cocktails, you’ll find comfort and camaraderie in every corner. We serve wholesome, casual dishes and drinks that bring people together—no frills, just honest food served with a smile.
What Makes Us Special
We’re proud to offer something rare: delicious, affordable meals paired with a welcoming atmosphere that feels like home. From our rotating beer selection to our new and old-world wines, every item on the menu is carefully selected. It’s not about fancy plates—it’s about good company, great flavor, and lasting memories.
Celebrating 50 Years of Stories
As part of our 50th anniversary, we launched A People’s History of Food and Drink, a podcast that explores culture and community through the lens of food and drink. Hosted by Daniel Berger-Jones, this series shares real stories, cooking lessons, and cocktail tutorials from the people who shaped Harvard Square—and The Den itself.
